Special people...

We congratulated some special people at the end of term 1.  These were children who had worked EXTRA hard all term in weekly spelling homework and in learning their memory verses.

Sam C, Matthew Y and Mach with their memory verse certificates.
Sam T earned one too but was away when we took the photo.
Their award says that they got every memory verse right and knew the reference (where it is from in the Bible) too! That is a big achievement!

Elina, Tayla, Sam C and Matthew M with their spelling certificates.
This award says that they got every word right in spelling ALL TERM ! Super effort everyone!

Special mention goes to Sam C who you will see is in both photos. Well done, Sam! You are amazing!

It's Art Time!

On Friday it was D1's second to last trip to the high school art room. Everyone was really focused on their work and enjoyed the new examples of letters and designs that Mrs Sneddon showed them. They were letters from old Bibles - very fancy and creative! Mrs Sneddon also showed the children some letters that were full of pictures that started with that letter - a special treat for children who finished their work early!
Here's a look around the room - so many hard workers in action!

This was our lesson plan for the day.

The boys sharing ideas...

Awesome colours!

Some people working on the 'special treat'...

Great concentration!

More 'special treat' work...

Colours, colours everywhere!

Working hard...

Recycled Art in D1

On Tuesdays,  D1 have been busy using different materials to create an awesome piece of art.  It is going to be a beach scene made up of materials that have already been used for something else.  Here are a few pictures of our work so far.

Elina painting the sky using bubble wrap bought in by Samuel C.

Jonathan making the sand dunes using old coffee sacks from Mr Thompson.

Sarah using lots of glue to hold it in place.

Samuel using dye to make his ocean.  The fish are made from newspapers.
We cant wait to see what they look like all put together!

Listening to God

We are very good at talking to God, but are we good at listening to Him? We read about Moses the other day and how he listened to God when the other people wouldn't. So God gave him the 10 Commandments to help everyone know how to live.

Everyone in D1 found a place to sit or lie down by themselves, we put some quiet worship music on...and listened to God speak to us. Some people found it easy to do and for others it was a new thing to try. At the end, some children shared what they had heard:

Matthew Y - Love one another as I have loved you.
Sam C - Have faith in Him.
Sam T - Come to me, Samuel!
Madeleine - Love your animals as you love yourself.
Jacob - Be yourself and don't be like other people.
Sarah W - When hard times come, have courage.

Well done, D1! You are great at listening to God!

We're going to the art room...

On Friday, D1 went up to the high school art room to have a lesson with Mrs Sneddon.

It's so exciting!
When we got there, Mrs Sneddon told us how to use the art room properly. She had written on the board what we were going to do.

Sounds good...
Next we played a game of 'Art Chinese Whispers'. One person had to put 5 letters of the alphabet on a piece of paper then whisper where they were to someone else. The whisper traveled up the team and the last person had to draw what they heard on the board.

This was really hard...but fun! Jimin checking her team's answer.
Finally we thought about our theme for the term - God is Number One. Mrs Sneddon said that we would be learning different ways to write this and make it into a piece of art!

Here is an idea of what we will end up with.
So we got to work...but our time was over all too soon!

William, Sam C and Mach all ready to work.
Thanks, Mrs Sneddon. We can't wait for next week!
