Kingdom Kid Award!

Our latest Kingdom Kid award has a special story behind it! It was for Matthew Y and this is what his certificate says:

Matthew has reached an important goal this year through his diligence – he completed his first ever cross country race! Matthew worked hard during practices to build up his fitness and finished well on the race day. He never gave up and that is what Kingdom Kids do! You shine, Matthew!

What's so special about finishing a cross country race? Well for Matthew and his family it is a really big deal! Matthew's heart is not always as strong as other children's hearts in his class and up till this year, he has not been able to compete in the big cross country race at the end of all the training. This year he did... and came about 10th out of 25 boys which is a huge achievement! What was most impressive though, was his great attitude to have a go and succeed this year. Way to go, Matthew! We are all very proud of you!

Special people...

We congratulated some special people at the end of term 1.  These were children who had worked EXTRA hard all term in weekly spelling homework and in learning their memory verses.

Their award says that they got every memory verse right and knew the reference (where it is from in the Bible) too! That is a big achievement!

It's Art Time!

On Friday it was D1's second to last trip to the high school art room. Everyone was really focused on their work and enjoyed the new examples of letters and designs that Mrs Sneddon showed them. They were letters from old Bibles - very fancy and creative! Mrs Sneddon also showed the children some letters that were full of pictures that started with that letter - a special treat for children who finished their work early!

We're Going to the Art Room...

Last Friday, D1 headed off to the high school for our 3rd art lesson. We have been working hard and this was our lesson this time:

Mrs Sneddon thought D1 was working so well that she needed to plan ahead in case we finished quickly! Some people might be working on our term 2 theme soon: God Never Changes

Phoebe was adding some really cool patterns inside her letters. Jonathan was concentrating hard while he worked on another table.

Matthew M added a design to the background.

Mrs Sneddon showed us some lettering from old Bibles. Matthew Y liked one of the patterns and worked really hard to use it in one of his letters.

When Phoebe finished her letters, the next step was to add a black outline around them.

Amazing Authors in D1

On Tuesdays in D1, we learn to use really interesting words and sentences in our writing.  We often look at a clever piece of writing and use this as a starting point for our own writing.
Today we read a piece about caterpillars turning into butterflies. We explored all the juicy words and sentences and then D1 started to write thier own  fabluous ideas.  Today Matthew Y and Jonny were chosen to publish on the blog.  Each Tuesday there will be more delighful writing to share :)

Matthew Y

A caterpillar is an amazing animal don't you know?  A caterpillar eats and eats until he can't eat another thing.  He waits and waits then he wraps his slippery skin and turns into a chrysalis.  Inside there are lots of juices.  The caterpillar sucks on them in his spare time. He forms into a butterfly then pushes out and look at that!  It is a beautiful butterfly.  

Jonny 

One day a caterpillar crept out of its egg.  Then it started munching away.  The caterpillar left lots of holes in the leaves.  The caterpillar got so fat and full.  It slithered its paint right off.  It dropped into the grass.  It formed a cocoon for two weeks.  Then it hatched like a new life was beginning.  Suddenly it flew away with freedom and excitement.  It was beautiful.

Listening to God

We are very good at talking to God, but are we good at listening to Him? We read about Moses the other day and how he listened to God when the other people wouldn't. So God gave him the 10 Commandments to help everyone know how to live.

Everyone in D1 found a place to sit or lie down by themselves, we put some quiet worship music on...and listened to God speak to us. Some people found it easy to do and for others it was a new thing to try. At the end, some children shared what they had heard:

Matthew Y - Love one another as I have loved you.
Sam C - Have faith in Him.
Sam T - Come to me, Samuel!
Madeleine - Love your animals as you love yourself.
Jacob - Be yourself and don't be like other people.
Sarah W - When hard times come, have courage.
